The Automotive industry has gone through significant changes in the last few years. With today’s cars, it is vital to understand the technology that is being integrated into autonomous systems. Vehicle safety systems such as automatic braking and lane departure warnings are complex computer systems integrated with cameras and sensors. Even something as simple as unplugging a tail light can set codes that might interfere with these systems working as intended, and expected by the vehicle owners. It is important that vehicle owners select professionals that understand these systems and are equipped to do safe, proper repairs.

Customers looking to get even a minor ding or dent repaired need to ask questions.  Paintless dent removal uses one of two techniques depending on the location and severity of the dent. Either the tech works the metal from behind the dent with a metal rod/tool, or a glue pulling technique. If they are using a metal tool, they need access to the back of the dent. If they tell you they need to drill a hole, then find another company. Drilling is never an option per every vehicle manufacturer. It is a safety issue and can affect air bag timing, and/or the designed path of energy in the event of a collision. If they are unplugging electronics, they need to understand the Advanced Driver Assist Systems (ADAS) and have the proper diagnostic tools to scan and reset codes. In extreme cases where panels are removed from the vehicle for heavy damage, calibrations may be required. These calibrations are typically done at the dealership level and will require additional time and fees.
